چکیده

We present a detailed analysis of the solution of the focusing nonlinear Schrödinger equation with initial condition ψ(x, 0) = N sech(x) in the limit N → ∞. We begin by presenting new and more accurate numerical reconstructions of the N -soliton by inverse scattering (numerical linear algebra) for N = 5, 10, 20, and 40. We then recast the inverse-scattering problem as a Riemann-Hilbert problem and provide a rigorous asymptotic analysis of this problem in the large-N limit. For those (x, t) where results have been obtained by other authors, we improve the error estimates from O(N−1/3) to O(N−1). We also analyze the Fourier power spectrum in this regime and relate the results to the optical phenomenon of supercontinuum generation. We then study the N -soliton for values of (x, t) where analysis has not been carried out before, and we uncover new phenomena. The main discovery of this paper is the mathematical mechanism for a secondary caustic (phase transition), which turns out to differ from the mechanism that generates the primary caustic. The mechanism for the generation of the secondary caustic depends essentially on the discrete nature of the spectrum of the N -soliton. Moreover, these results evidently cannot be recovered from an analysis of an ostensibly similar “condensed-pole” Riemann-Hilbert problem. c © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.

Bright N–solitons for the intermediate nonlinear Schrödinger equation

The integral sign with a backslash denotes the principal value. The constant σ is taken to be ±1. For positive (negative) σ, the equation is called the defocusing (focusing) INLS equation. Originally, the defocusing INLS equation was discovered by carrying out a reductive perturbation method for the ILW equation [8]. It describes the long–term evolution of quasi–harmonic wave packets whose wave...

Localized Solitons of a (2+1)-dimensional Nonlocal Nonlinear Schrödinger Equation

A new integrable (2+1)-dimensional nonlocal nonlinear Schrödinger equation is proposed. The N-soliton solution is given by Gram type determinant. It is found that the localized N-soliton solution has interesting interaction behavior which shows change of amplitude of localized pulses after collisions .

Inverse scattering approach to coupled higher order nonlinear Schrödinger equation and N -soliton solutions

A generalized inverse scattering method has been applied to the linear problem associated with the coupled higher order nonlinear schrödinger equation to obtain it’s N -soliton solution. An infinite number of conserved quantities have been obtained by solving a set of coupled Riccati equations. It has been shown that the coupled system admits two different class of solutions, characterised by t...

Soliton Solution of the Integrable Coupled Nonlinear Schrödinger Equation of Manakov Type

The soliton solution of the integrable coupled nonlinear Schrödinger equation (NLS) of Manakov type is investigated by using Zakharov-Shabat (ZS) scheme. We get the bright N-solitons solution by solving the integrable uncoupled NLS of Manakov type. We also find that there is an elastic collision of the bright N-solitons.
